Wouna le Roux

As part of my Master of Design studies (through UCOL New Zealand) I wanted to explore the concept of masking, veiling, disguise – concealing and revealing (something that is used extensively during the rites of passage in primitive cultures). Masks (whether in the form of costume, make-up, paint or tattoos) are tools of transcendence, and are important in religious, cultural and social life – mental or physical. It enables role play and identity switches, similar to that of the trickster.
