Other

Having done a host of patchwork blankets in the past, these were always created primarily as functional items – they were always used. It felt to me that creating something purely for artistic purposes, something that has special meaning to you, or maybe conveys a message of sorts, was not ‘good enough’. It took me a while to get beyond the concept of creating for its practical value (craft), towards creating for aesthetic value (art).

Quilts in particular fall into the category, for me, of somehow having to be useful. But I have come to realise that usefulness can also be in the form of art therapy, or simply having a special meaning or aesthetic value to myself or someone else.

Flow

Size: 300x210mm

A small contemporary quilt. Done using slow stitching only – a bit of a meditation on being in a state of flow.
